Community Collaboration

Created for Hero’s Village in Sarasota, this large-scale mural was commissioned as part of a landmark initiative to provide permanent, affordable housing for local veterans. Developed through a partnership led by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation in collaboration with St. Vincent de Paul CARES and the City of Sarasota, the project represents a first-of-its-kind residential community dedicated exclusively to veterans in the region.

Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, the mural was conceived as both a visual anchor and a tribute—honoring the service and resilience of the veterans who call Hero’s Village home. Created in collaboration with the Vitale Brothers, muralists based in St. Petersburg, the work depicts multiple branches of the U.S. military, highlighting diverse identities and the shared strength found in service and community.

Through movement, color, and layered abstraction, the composition conveys a sense of forward momentum—reflecting the transition from instability to permanence at the heart of the project. Unveiled during the community’s opening, the mural stands as a lasting tribute to dignity, belonging, and hope.
