Residential Elevator Shaft Mural
I was commissioned to create a custom installation for a four-story elevator shaft measuring 48 feet tall by 5 feet 8 inches wide. The client wanted a highly photorealistic scene—something immersive and believable rather than painterly—despite the fact that the environment itself did not exist in reality. To achieve this, I taught myself how to use AI tools to design and produce my first AI-generated mural, blending technology and large-scale installation to bring an entirely imagined space to life.
The client established several key project requirements to guide the creative direction and execution of the mural. The installation needed to feel immersive, visually dynamic, and structurally responsive to the vertical scale of the four-story elevator shaft, while also meeting a fast-paced production timeline.
❋ Vibrant, High-Impact Color
The visual palette needed to feel energetic and engaging without appearing artificial or overly stylized. Color was used strategically to enhance depth, movement, and realism throughout the vertical composition.
❋ Diverse Underwater Species
The mural needed to feature a range of marine life to create visual interest and a sense of discovery at every level of the shaft. Species were integrated in a way that felt natural and ecologically believable rather than decorative or repetitive.
❋ Full Oceanic Depth: Sea Floor to Surface
The composition was required to transition seamlessly from the ocean floor at the base to the water’s surface at the top. This vertical narrative reinforced the architecture of the shaft while guiding the viewer through a continuous underwater environment.
❋ One-Month Production Timeline
The entire concept development, design, and production process had to be completed within a four-week window. This required an efficient workflow, rapid iteration, and the strategic use of AI tools to maintain both speed and quality.
